25Years ago in the night between the 16th and 17th May the city of Munich ceased all flight operations at one airport and moved all vehicles from the old “Riem” airport to the new “Franz Josef Strauß” airport, being located more than 2okm north of the old aiport. It was a very difficult, but very succesful night and the airport was all ready in the next morning.
To celebrate it`s anniversary the airport organized a very special weekend, with several aircraft on static display, parties in the evening and amazing food, as well as some smaller events for kids. Both days with airside access, as well as the party`s in the evenings before were free, and anyone could attend after signing up for tickets online. While a few families were disappointed, because of there weren`t that many aircraft, me and other spotters were very lucky to catch the rare aircrafts, like the only flying Lockheed L10A Electra or the Li-2, being a under licensed build DC3.
Big thanks my good friends Simon and Chris(muc_aviationphotography) and Holger (planespotterx) for the great company and all the awesome flight crews for giving us a tour behind the fences and allow us to take a peak into the cockpits! Of course also to Publisher Matthias for helping out with the editing!
