Back in 1926 Walter Varney founded Varney Air Lines, which delivered mail from Elko to Pasco. In 1927 William Boeing, the founder of the manufacturer Boeing, bought Varney Airlines and merged with his own airline, forming ,together with Pratt&Whitney the United Aircraft and Transportation Corporation. Later this airlines has been named United Air Lines.
The company then started buying airliners to grow the company to later become one of Americas most important airlines.
In 2010 United merged with Continental Airlines with the result of being the biggest airline in the number of employees until the merger of American and US-Airways.
