Tenerife Trip – May 2016
Tenerife is a small island, about 2000 square Kilometers in size, and is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The Island is part of the Spanish Canarian Islands. Tenerife is a densely populated island with about 900,000 inhabitants. With about five million poeple visiting the island each year, it is one of Spain’s most popular tourist destinations.
Due to the small size of the island, it is possible to drive around the whole island in a single day. You should definitely do this, as you get to see most of the interesting places located on the coast, such as the Punta de Teno lighthouse, which is known to provide the best view near Buenavista.
A very popular place in Tenerife is the “Loro Parque” (Spanish for “parrot park”), founded in 1972. The zoo is 33 acres big and is a home to 4000 parrots. The park is a paradise for parrots and has become one of the largest attractions of the Canary Island chain. In addition to parrots, the zoo offers 3 shows; the Orca, the Dolphin and the Sealion show. Loro Parque also has a lot of rare animals, such as the white tiger or a wombat.
Another very renowned park in Tenerife is the “Siam Park”, located in the south of the island. This park is a huge waterpark including a few rides that you will never forget. The park is rated the best waterpark worldwide by Tripadvisor and has received many prices for its unique and breathtaking waterslides. As I did not have my camera with me in the slides, I highly recommend taking a look at the official WEBSITE or chechinkg out their official YOUTUBE video.
The island emerged about 12 million years ago because of an volcanic eruption. The highest mountain is the “El Teide“, which is 3700meters (2315 miles) high and Spain’s highest mountain. The easiest way to get up is by car, as you can take the road to the Teide Cable car. From there on you can simply take the funicular up to 3500m, where 3 hiking trails begin. Two of them lead to viewpoints on the same height and the third one heads to the peak of the volcano. To climb all the way up, you need a permission, but all other trails are easy and accessible for everyone. The view from the viewpoints, as well as from the peak, is magnificent. On a clear day you are able to see the whole island and even the next Islands “La Gomera” and “Gran Canaria”.
The highest point you can reach without a permission is at 3569m (2200miles).
We were flying to Tenerife Norte with AirEuropa, with one stop in Madrid, which was amazing. The crew was very nice and even allowed to visit the cockpit of both 737-800 and A330. The seats were very comfortable and the food, avaible for purchase on short-haul flights was good! Thank you very much for the flight!
About our hotel:
We as a familiy were staying at the Hotel Botanico in Puerta de la Cruz in the northern part of the island. We loved it, as the rooms were great and offered a good view at the sunset. The breakfast consiste of a big variety of fresh fruit, bread, warm meals and a gluten free bread corner. The hotel also offered live music in a lounge next to the lobby, with a bar offering drinks and relaxing couches.
